2009 BET Cypher!! Who killed it?
I thought I drop my opinion on the Cypher at the 2009 BET Hip Hop Award Show. Well here it is.
It was pretty dope just seeing Preemo. I have a totally different view of dude after listening to his show on XM. It was cool he repped his hometown too. The beat was dope. It was very similar to Kool G Rap’s “it a demo”. Which was cool, but “men at work.” would have been an iller beat for a cypher.
Nikki
Nikki was horrible. I think her presence to kick it off was a waste. I think I would have rather heard Gucci or OJ. She was rocking some faux kool keith flow. It was terrible. Unless she drops a dope single she set female rappers back a little with her terrible performance.
Buckshot
He really solidified why I pass on listening to his album with KRS. For a man that created one of the illest rap albums ever he didn’t come correct. I felt he was off base and just lacking lyrically on his turn. I wasn’t shocked. I was just glad when it was over.
Crown Royal
I didn’t know AJ from 106 & Park spit? LMAO, damn I really liked his energy and stuff but I wanted to see Free spit more than him. He seems like he is in a happier place, but I am confused why he wants to be a rapper now.
Joe Buddens
Killed it, killed it, killed it….. I got to listen to this dude. I swear he had so many quotable in his turn. Dude won all year if you ask me.
Wale
Wale killed me. Damn, I spend all year big upping this dude and he comes out with the most boring turn in the cypher. Damn homie, when you dropped “mixtape about nothin” you was the man homie. Fuck happen to you?
Nipsey Hussle
Lol, snoop deep cover resurfaces. That’s all I could think about, but he did rep his city well. It was not dope but he was way more engaging than Nikki and Wale.
KRS
I am a huge KRS stan. He kept the feel of the cypher of how I remember it more than any other act on these segments.
Mos Def
I can knock dude. He was in the zone. Mos Def repped to the fullest. I think he showed he is one of the most talented cats in the game.
Black Thought
Whoa!!!!!!!!! I finally got an opportunity to hear some tear the beat apart. He rode the track the best. That is my dude. That is my dude. Philly was repped crazy on his turn.
Eminem
I got to tell you. Back in 2000 I was telling dude this kid Eminem was so damn talented he could be the GOAT one day. I stepped away from that but now that he is back and focus he can make my prophecy a reality soon. Em was light years ahead of everyone on this track. The “rape” line was classic Em and was the dope bar out of everyone dropped. He even beat his obama dalai lama line which I thought was crazy dope to. Em is easily the illest cat in the game.
It started of slow but ended incredibly. Props BET. Who would have ever thought a dude that hated that network for over a decade would say that?
